Progress Description
Ghana was once two-thirds covered with dense rainforest until about 30 years ago. The settlements were surrounded by forest, and the people lived in harmony with nature from and in the forest. After international timber companies cut aisles in the forest to cut precious woods such as teak or mahogany, farmers followed into the now developed forest areas and began to convert the forest into farmland through slash-and-burn agriculture.
The consequences of deforestation are desertification, climate change and finally the rural exodus of the population. Reforestation measures are therefore urgently needed to give the country a secure ecological future. To fight against the ongoing deforestation locally and climate change globally the TreeHood Project aims at planting trees with your Donations as well it joins national and global campaigns to advocate for favorable environmental laws and policies for their implementation and enforcement.
